AI Maturity Project
Guiding Businesses to Success in the Digital Age
An AI maturity framework provides a practical roadmap for organizations to evaluate their current capabilities, identify gaps, and create a plan for future development. It covers various key areas, such as technology infrastructure, data management, governance, ethical considerations, and workforce skills. Without such a framework, businesses may find it challenging to fully capitalize on the benefits of AI or to manage its risks effectively.
In Japan, where the population is rapidly aging, AI offers powerful solutions to maintain productivity and enhance eldercare services. However, using AI responsibly, especially in sensitive areas like healthcare, requires a strong framework to ensure that ethical and privacy concerns are properly addressed.
Similarly, in the UK, where AI is central to the government’s industrial strategy, an AI maturity framework can help businesses align their AI initiatives with national objectives, build a culture of AI literacy, and comply with regulatory requirements. It can also help address critical issues like algorithmic bias and transparency, which are essential for maintaining public trust in AI technology.
Funded by the UK Research and Innovation Science Partnerships Fund (ISPF) through the British Council, this project aims to develop a comprehensive AI maturity framework to guide businesses in both Japan and the UK on their AI journey. In partnership with Edinburgh Napier University, UK, and Musashino University, Japan, and led by Professor Sukanlaya Sawang and Professor Virach Sornlertlamvanich, the framework will provide a clear roadmap for companies to enhance their AI capabilities, boost productivity, and remain competitive in an ever-evolving landscape.
This initiative not only supports businesses but also contributes to the global dialogue on responsible AI use. The insights generated will be valuable for policymakers, industry leaders, and researchers worldwide, promoting sustainable and ethical AI practices that benefit the broader community.
In essence, this framework will not just be a tool for assessing readiness—it will be a guide for growth, ensuring that businesses can confidently harness the power of AI while navigating the complexities of ethics and regulation.
